Board of Management Profiles

 

David Meldrum - President

David Meldrum, Director Meldrum Consulting, has extensive experience in both the government and non government sector in the management of health and community services.  A previous Chief Executive Officer of South Australian Mental Health Services, David now consults with government and private health organisations in Australia and New Zealand in the development of community services as an alternative to hospitalisation.  As well as his role as President with MIFSA, David serves on several other community service boards, both at a state and national level. 

 

Bob Burke - Vice President

Bob Burke has an Honours degree in mechanical engineering and a Company Director‘s Diploma.  He works as a Management Consultant specialising in quality management, and has extensive experience in the car industry.  Bob was appointed as a Board member of the Mood Disorders Association in 2002 and is currently Vice President of MIFSA and Vice President of the Mental Health Coalition of South Australia.  Bob is also a member of MIFSA’s Mood Disorders Carers Group, and brings his lived experience as a carer of a family member with mental illness.  

Neville Rice - Treasurer

Neville Rice is MIFSA’s Treasurer and is an ICT professional with SA’s Department of Treasury and Finance.  He has also acquired a strong accounting, banking and financial background. Neville served on the Board of the Mood Disorders Association prior to the organisation merging with the Mental Illness Fellowship of SA.  Neville is also a carer and therefore has a keen interest in mental illness.  Neville serves on a number of management committees, and has also served as treasurer on a school canteen committee.

 

Chris Bock

Chris Bock has been a member of the Fellowship since 1992 and has previously been appointed as a Consumer Representative on the Board and fulfilled that role for 5 years, 1996—2002, and again from 2005 till present. Chris also continues to be an active volunteer at MIFSA.

 

Brian Gardiner

Brian Gardiner has been a Board member since 2005, fulfilling a role of Consumer Representative on MIFSA’s Board of Management.  Brian volunteers at MIFSA and works as a Community Educator while his employment history includes roles as Chief Electrician on super oil tankers, positions in management including project work in engineering, electrical & controls systems design, and project management, as well as self employment in companies he initiated.  Other qualifications include those gained from trade, sales, management, and senior management positions held since 1970.

 

Eddy Lynch

Eddy Lynch was the President of the Mood Disorders Association for fourteen years and served three years as the Vice President.  Eddy was a foundation member of Family Therapy (SA) Association and a foundation member of the Mental Health Alliance.  Eddy has extensive experience in working in mental health having been a psychiatric nurse for 40 years, since 1967.  

 

Katrina Kalaburnis

Katrina Kalaburnis is an active consumer, volunteer and casual staff member of the Mental Illness Fellowship of SA.  Katrina is also employed by Central Northern Adelaide Health Services as a statewide Peer Specialist based at Glenside Campus and works as a seasonal guest speaker for TAFE, Port Adelaide. Katrina has successfully raised a family during her own journey of recovery and utilised her lived experience and extensive knowledge and understanding of mental illness in her various roles in the mental health sector.

 

Dr Eli Rafalowicz

Dr Eli Rafalowicz is the Executive Director of Southern Mental Health Service and a Consultant Psychiatrist.  Eli has a long term interest in shaping the best possible mental health services, is a strong supporter of consumer driven and community based mental health services and a forceful advocate for consumers and carers.  Eli has worked as a clinician and manager in public mental health services for more than 20 years, and has also experienced the system as a carer.

 

Marion Croser

Marion Croser is a psychiatric social worker at the Margaret Tobin Centre, Flinders Medical Centre.  Marion has worked in other regions of the public mental health service, including Cramond Clinic, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and within community teams.  These experiences have provided a broad understanding of the needs of consumers and carers within metropolitan Adelaide and rural areas.  Marion joined the "Fellowship" in 1997 and since 2000, Marion has been actively involved in the Education Program, serving as Chair from 2003/2006.  Marion was elected to the Board in 2004.  Marion has held numerous other positions on committees in health, education and community sectors and active within the Australian and International Associations of Social Workers.
