Peer Workers are people living well with mental illness, who use their lived experience to support and foster hope to others
living with mental health issues as well as raise awareness within the general community.
The Peer Worker Program recruits, trains, provides supervision and support for peer workers whilst promoting employment
opportunities in an environment that encourages growth and personal developement. The Program is split into four main areas:
- Information Sessions
- Introduction to Peer Work training course
- The Peer Network
- Promotion/Support to Employers
The information Sessions, are a chance for interested people to get more information about Peer
Work and what the program offers, as well as, pick up the application forms.
The Introduaction to Peer Work Course, is a one day per week, six week course. That provides
people insight into the skills, language, expectations and tools need to become a Peer Worker. It also provides people
with an insight into their own journey and recovery.
The Peer Network, provides people with the chance to interact with others, keep in touch with
the sector, share ideas, promote peer work and find out about up coming jobs or training options. Monthly meetings, speakers,
group sessions, mentoring and mail outs are all part of the Peer Network.
The Promotion/Support to employers, is an integral part of the program. We are trying to create
as many positive links and networks as possible and assist where we can to help implement Peer Workers into willing organisations.
Peer workers are already employed in a variety of areas including mainstream hospital settings to general communtiy organisations.
